Ignyte has focused on the Digital transformation of the health care industry since our inception almost 7 years ago. We were inspired by the rich ecosystem of API‚Äôs available in the healthcare space and see an opportunity in the market to better connect these to the overall care delivery workflow to improve patient engagement and chronic condition management. Furthermore, we at Ignyte want to help do our part to help mitigate the inequity in the overall health for our nation‚Äôs poor and minority communities.

To address this, we developed an Appian-based solution that improves the end to end patient engagement lifecycle and integrates a proven bank of NIH PROMIS questionnaires to capture Patient Reported Outcomes, enables remote patient monitoring with connected health devices, enhances Electronic Health Record (EHR) integration with Appian Record Sync (powered by HL7 FHIR standards), provides access to medical ridesharing providers (RoundTrip) and social care networks (Aunt Bertha), as well as the ability integrate patient satisfaction metrics with leading experience management platforms like Qualtrics and Medallia.

The key features of our solution became self-evident from the challenges in the healthcare market today. However, our team had to dig deep and go through many iterations of journey mapping to determine the optimal method to weave these capabilities into a seamless care delivery workflow for patients and providers. Our Appian team‚Äôs diverse skill-sets in user experience, public health analysts, and management consulting DNA helped us to power through these challenges to develop a solution we are proud of and excited to bring to the market.

Decodering

This application provides tools and instructions for cracking some famous classic ciphers; not doing it for you, but teaching you how to do it to help you think like a cryptographer and cryptanalyst and begin your path to becoming a cryptography expert.

The inspiration for the project was the Appian Online Academy. I saw here an extremely good case for Appian, and in particular Appian's well known process of dogfooding. Here is an opportunity to use Appian to create learning materials for learning Appian. Really, Appian could be used to construct learning materials for any subject, including one of my favorite subjects, cryptography. I was going to make an app for building courses with materials, examples, exercises, quizzes, and surveys, but I got too focused on the cryptography part and decided just to make it what I really want to make.

First and foremost, a lot of research was involved. Becoming intimately acquainted with how ciphers work, how they were constructed, how they were deconstructed, and what ways the paper-and-pencil process could be augmented and simplified while still exposing HOW the attack against the cipher works. Quite a bit of math was involved, and trying to figure out how to combine components in a way that leads to a readable result. Thankfully it was mostly simple math.

An absolute favorite became the sideBySide layout with items defined in a forEach. This allows me to output side-by-side items. When I use this to generate single letter width richtext items, I can be sure that multiple sets of letters always line up the way I want, as I can make certain all the richText components have exactly the same width regardless of their contents.

Another favorite was Stamps with links, which are used throughout the application. As inputs, they allow you to condense a lot of information in a very tiny space, and have WAY less overhead than Cards as buttons. One interface has 128 Stamps with Links, and some pretty complex logic determining how they are defined based on local variables, and the interface performs pretty well. Some interface components could possibly do a little more, but would churn with that many on the screen.

Unfortunately, there's a lot more really interesting ciphers out there that I simply didn't have the time to build them all. I wanted to progress steadily forward in time to the Enigma machine, but I couldn't get the durned thing to work, so I would say this is the era of ciphers prior to "machine aided" ciphers. The early "machine aided" ciphers could make a really good second installment, with a third installment for modern computer ciphers, which is something I would really like to tackle in the future.

Perhaps the biggest challenge is creating puzzles. I know them, and I know how they work, so I have no idea if they're too easy or too hard. Everything in this app is pretty well too easy for me. I guess that will just have to come with user feedback. I did mean to get ahold of some codes that I did not create to see if I can crack them with this tool. I did it! I was able to crack a code I didn't make in a short while.

Healthcare Communication Center (HCC)

HCC Provides a secure and compliant application interface for healthcare providers to communicate with their patients using SMS messaging.

Timely and targeted communication is a growing demand for businesses of all types. It's especially relevant in the healthcare industry as more and more providers are embracing technology across all stages of the patient journey. VPS' partners at Twilio are at the forefront of this movement, having developed their SMS messaging platform, among other key components, to be HIPAA-compliant in order to serve this use case. One thing that is missing is a user-focused application that providers can use to manage and conduct secure and private patient communication activities. Twilio enables the communication, but we need to provide the app. Appian makes a lot of sense to fill this role. With HIPAA-compliant AppianCloud hosting and features of the platform such as object level security, mobile app support, and seamless integrations, VPS wanted to deliver a powerful application platform that is ready for real world use in this challenging industry.

The process of building the application started with identifying the parts of the Twilio API that were considered HIPAA compliant. For example, it was clear we could utilize SMS messaging API and the Conversations API, but the TaskRouter API was off-limits. This meant we had to make a design decision to allow Appian to own the task assignment functionality.

The second major task was to design the realtime chat agent interface. We couldn‚Äôt quite replicate a real-time experience with out-of-the-box SAIL, and the existing Appian Twilio Component plugin doesn't meet the HIPAA compliance standard. However, we were able to leverage the Custom SAIL Component SDK and Connected System SDK to build an Appian Plugin that would present that part of the UI using dynamic JavaScript. The connected system plugin we built utilizes the Twilio Conversations SDK to bridge patient messages coming in as SMS Text, with Agent messages being sent as chat.

Once we had the solutions to these problems identified, we were able to build the application using an iterative Agile approach over the course of about 7 weeks. We developed the custom plugins and the Appian interfaces in parallel and integrated them as we went along, iterating the design as we went.

One design goal was to ensure the Agent/Doctor's Office experience was mobile friendly. We tested and iterated the UI with mobile-friendly, responsive design in mind throughout the entire development process.

One important accomplishment was to ensure we were maintaining the principles of HIPAA-compliance along the way. It's not enough to just say you're compliant just because the platforms being used support it. We had to be mindful of design patterns such as least-privilege and action auditing from the start, incorporating it into all designs from the beginning.

A smart timesheet app that reduces redundant, needless work and makes it as painless and simple for employees, supervisors, HR, and Finance to manage employee time and pay.

I work for a contracting company working as a sub for another contractor working for a government agency. I have to fill out three timesheet apps every single day. What I and my colleagues have noticed is that virtually all timesheet applications are a painful nuisance to fill out. There's all kinds of needless extra steps to do before you just fill in the time. For instance, every two weeks you have to go searching for time codes until you find the one for your job position, over and over. I've been doing the same job for 3 years, and I've filled in that same input about 156 times when I could just as easily have done it only once, and once again when I'm actually on a different project.

We decided we wanted to create better. We wanted to create a timesheet application that eliminated all the extra work and made it as painless as possible for the employee, the supervisor, HR, Finance, everyone involved. We wanted an app that made it as fast and simple as possible to fill in time, submit, review, approve timesheets, and create invoices.

Our goal is to create an app simple enough that employees will be happy to fill in, in order to drive compliance up to 100 percent.

Dylan was able to create a bespoke record to use for a Report, and use that to build charts and grids, and that was a vast improvement over the method for combining graphs, charts, and grids in the past. The ability to integrate charts and grids directly with the records was instrumental in this application being built.

We also found an extremely cool lifehack around editable grids. By not showing the columnHeaders, we were able to add richText to the first row of the editable grid allowing us to dynamically change the styling to showcase which days were weekends, which really helps find the right cell and not fat-finger hours into the wrong slot, as well as using color to highlight which column of the timesheet is Today.

Box layout for radio buttons were widely used, because it just makes such a bigger target, and so much easier to click. I also personally got my first real experience discovering how very, very useful fv!isFirst and fv!isLast can be. Don't know why it didn't come up sooner, but those two function variables were vital to the success of some forEach functions used in the construction of the timesheet interface.

Screen Smart

The app is an intelligent pre-screening solution that screens candidates from LinkedIn & other social/public platforms to find the fittest candidates. The app addresses the long hours recruiters put on unwanted/suspicious profiles for the given positions.

Our Inspiration:

Our talent recruitment team is overwhelmed with the higher number of openings, and they have an uphill task of shortlisting suitable candidates for the interview. Recruitment is a manual, time-consuming task where the recruitment & the interviewing team have to spend long hours shortlisting a candidate. On top of that, post-COVID pandemic, our recruitment team found 25% of profiles suspicious or fraud on different sources of data on the internet for each position, hence spending an average of 20+ hours a week on profiles which should ideally be rejected in the first place.

Our Solution:

This problem pushed us to think of any possible way to find the best profiles for the interviews in an automated way to find more appropriate talent in a lesser time. At the same time, a way to identify the suspicious profiles early in the screening process.

We developed this application on Appian that empowers the recruitment team to automatically enrich the candidate profile from multiple sources like LinkedIn, Twitter, and GitHub. The data collected is then analyzed intelligently to check if the profile matches the weighted match criteria defined in the application. This way, we get the results that are more suited to our needs.

The application brings the concept of Match Score, which is an easy way for the recruitment team to identify the right profiles for a job. The match score is an intelligently calculated score by the app based on how well the candidate profile matches the established criteria and how much it is cross-validated from multiple other data points. The Match score keeps on changing as more and more data is associated with the profile.

Finally, the applications also allow the recruitment team to perform virtual pre-screening assessment interviews. The application offers easy-to-use configurations for the recruitment team to specify the questions they would like to ask. Usually, these questions are the ones that can elicit more details about the candidate's profile, skill set. This video content is used to verify the skills identified from the unified data of LinkedIn, GitHub, and Twitter. If there is a mismatch of the user photo (for example, the LinkedIn photo does not match the Video assessment photo, etc.). The same is flagged as a suspicious profile.

Blue Arc Asset Tracker (BAAT)

A no code asset tracking system.

Creation, management, and notification of assets is a common business need and should be simple. This was our inspiration behind building BAAT. We wanted to deliver an easy-to-use application which delivered business value immediately, without the need for everything usually involved in a traditional software development lifecycle. With Appian's low code framework developers can build apps fast. With BAAT we knew we could empower business user to build apps even faster using a no code approach. We have given all the power into the hands of a user of the application to configure it as they need .

The application's features include everything you would need for asset tracking. The core functionality used is out of the box Appian. We also utilized the color picker custom plug-in to allow users to select almost any color they desire for the icons and styling.

Some challenges we faced where do to the fact that the system had to be extremely dynamic. The main benefit of the application was its greatest hurdle to over come from a design perspective. Every screen would have to be configured at run time instead of having developers build each interface out for specific use cases. Another challenge was around how we would store data in a manner that met industry standards for normalization while also supporting the dynamic nature of the application.

Promoting Equality through Appian

Appian based case management solution that uses machine learning to detect unconscious bias to help improve your organization's decision making.

The inspiration for this project was the idea of using technology to fight against bias in society. There have been a lot of articles about how automation and AI can perpetuate bias by mimicking the biased patterns in their human generated training data. We wanted to reverse that trend, and use technology to eliminate the bias in human generated data instead of perpetuating it. To do this, we combined Appian and Rhino AI to create a collection of business processes which would automatically be audited for bias.

Appian's ability to automate the processes of almost any industry make it an excellent platform to build this functionality in. If bias can be reduced through Appian processes, it can be reduced in all the business and enterprise areas that Appian processes are used. This has the potential to create enormous societal impact.

Some challenges we had to overcome were how to identify different types of bias in unstructured data, such as racial, national, or sexual bias. To do this, we used AI models hosted in Rhino, which was trained on biased text from both human sources and machine sources such as GPT-3. Due to Appian's excellent integration capabilities, it was easy for us to integrate Rhino's AI bots into Appian's processes, allowing us to rapidly add auditing capabilities to multiple processes. We could then display the AI bots‚Äô findings through Appian's rich UI and reports.

We look forward to continuing this work in the future, and believe that this can be used as a template to help reduce bias both in the enterprise and in society at large.

2) Inspiration

Our own IT team - we were in hunt of a hackathon idea, we discussed with few of our internal teams in the organization. And thus we came to know about the need of automation in the subscription and license handling processes of our IT team. As our organization often procures multiple software and infrastructures for our business needs, it becomes cumbersome to track and manage funds & subscription costs aligning with the budget allocated to IT. Frequently our IT team ends up spending for unused licenses. From our market research as well it looks like a lot of organization are facing the same issue. So we nailed an idea to develop a Subscription Advisor platform on Appian which can help our IT team to organize and manage all our software & infrastructure subscriptions.

4) Challenges faced

Integration with software tools - Some SaaS software provides multiple APIs for user data, some provide separate APIs to get usage or license data. Availability and scope of that API becomes challenging here.
Dynamic connection - To establish the connection with VISSA with the third party tools, we have action on our application to ‚ÄúManage connections‚Äù, we are dynamically passing on the connection authentication tokens, every time dynamically connecting is not possible on Appian, it was challenging. The work around will be JWT tokens or go with custom smart services in Appian.

KPMG Reinsurance Claim Platform

Inspiration The solution is inspired by 3 main business challenges; Legacy system integration, Process Automation and Document Processing. Business also was struggling with issues such as tracking, role based actions and segregation of work. With a lot of new components that were release in previous and current versions, it was also an inspiration to build an application that uses Appian Stack completely to build this reinsurance platform.

Technology used: We have only used Appian to develop this platform completely. Here are some of the components of Appian that we have utilised:

We have also used a lot of new UI features of Appian to make this application more interaction and user friendly.

ChallengesMain challenge that we faced was implementation of Appian RPA. Although the tool is easy to learn, it needs a lot of software to be installed which can be an issue in a large organisation.

Simple Classroom

Simple Classroom is a Virtual Classroom Application with a powerful content management system for teachers to share lecture materials, create/grade various types of tests and assignments, and offers analytical data on each class/student's progress.

I want to apologize in advance if this is a repeat submission. My previous submission form was stuck at Review and I wasn't sure if it was sent.

I was inspired to build this project from to all the online courses I am taking during the COVID era. There is nothing wrong with the Virtual Conferencing aspect since there are many established tools out there such as Teams, Zoom, WebEx etc. However, when it came to content creation management, it is surprisingly lacking. A lot of online courses out there have limited testing options and a lot of assignments are uploaded/emailed. Different classes from the same institution will have different websites for some reason. There would be no statistics regarding the tests/questions/assignments you have done online either. The mobile support was also lackluster. I have been using Appian since version 6 and I realized that the Appian platform is perfect to manage all this. I registered for an Appian trial and decided to see how far I could go by spending a few hours a day for two weeks.

I heavily leveraged the Site and Record Type objects in Appian. I created five types of user groups: Principal, HR, Teachers, Students, and Parents. Each of them will have their own Site landing page.

-The principal will be able to create new classroom and see general statistics.

-The HR will be able to enroll new teachers/students and approve class registrations.

-The Teachers will be able to edit each Class Record and customize it so the students can see the relevant information. They are also able to create a Schoolwork data type object which could be anything ranging from quizzes, exams, assignments, projects etc as long as the student need to submit a response and have it graded. The analytical class/individual results will be available for the teacher to see. The teacher can also control the grading scheme of the class and participate in class discussion board.

-The Students are able to easily find their classes (Class Record) and any Schoolwork assigned to them (tasks). They can also see their Schoolwork results, see the Schoolwork answers, and look at the performance statistics.

-Parents are able to have a read-only view of their children's class to follow along.

Each class's classroom will be a Record. The teacher will be able to edit the Views of this Record such as the class landing page, syllabus page, lectures page, and grading page. The teacher will also be able to create various types of schoolwork such as tests and assignments with 7 different types of question format. The student can enter a response, choose from multiple choices, true/false or upload a document to these questions. Depending on the nature of the question, the question could be marked automatically. The results of each schoolwork are recorded in detail for each individual that took them. If the question was answered correctly, what score was received, feedback from grader, time taken and much more. There is also a hashtag feature that tracks what category each question/schoolwork is. This allows the students/teachers to see statistically what area the student is struggling with. Parents can see the progress as well.

Working as an individual participant that started two weeks before the deadline, time constraint and limited options available to me using an Appian trial were the only struggles I encountered. I did not figure out how to create database views in the Appian trial so the data available could definitely be improved. I was not able to use enterprise tools for PDF generation to generate a report card and AI and reporting (such as PowerBI) to create better statistical results (this is a licensing issue as I am participating as an individual). However, this could be easily integrated later.
