Hello Guys,
After 17.3 upgrade I am unable to start from server. What is this password : "APPIAN_SM_PASSWORD" ?

service.bat:
call ..\start.bat -f -p %APPIAN_SM_PASSWORD% -s all >> %AE_LOG_DIR%\service_manager_startup.log 2>&1

Based on below thread I understood, this need to be hard coded. Is this default Admin user password or something else ?

As another, additional workaround, and if you are uncomfortable modifying the base product scripts / having passwords in plain text, you can also set the password up as an environment variable using the standard windows tools.

Tim - Yes I performed step 3, but not sure how adding to the repo solves the problem, as Brandon mentions as well.

Brandon - I followed advise from Mike below, and hardcoded the password until as a workaround until the fix arrives.

Mike - Will you please share with this thread when the permanent fix arrives?

We also have an open case with Appian. From the case notes:

"The temporary workaround was to edit service.bat to include the password in plain text instead of the %APPIAN_SM_PASSWORD% variable, which brought up the engines successfully.
We will let you know once permanent steps are found for this issue."

I have the same issue. Tim - How does adding the file to the repository solve the problem? I did what you suggested above, ran a new build and I still can't start the engines from the windows service. It starts perfectly from a command line using all the required parameters.

Josh - I assume you eventually got it to work - any advice? thanks

Did you also do step three?

Service Manager Password

1. Go to <APPIAN_HOME>\services\bin\.
2. Run password script (password.bat), using the -p option to specify a password.
3. Copy the resulting file from <APPIAN_HOME>\services\conf\service_manager.conf to <REPO_HOME>\services\conf\service_manager.conf.<ENVIRONMENT>. You will need to create the <REPO_HOME>\services\conf\ directory if you have not previously completed this step.
