Please try installing the latest hotfix for 17.3 and see if it makes any differnce.

I also had the same issue, the thing is , you could able to start the Zoo Keeper and the Kafka server but when you start this you wouldn't be able to. Check the license file. If your license is valid only then the engines will start if you see in Kafka server CMD, you can find it K3.lic is null or something like this an error message will be generated for each engine.

The primary log that you will need to follow up this error is <APPIAN_HOME>/logs/service_manager.log. Try starting the engines once more and tail the log to see what the error is. In the past, and as you've noted, I've seen a similar sort of status coming from the engines if the license isn't valid. If that is the case, you can request a new license through knowledge base article KB-1316

Yeah that was my first thought, but i've done a complete shut down of all services, jboss and the search server. But it's still stalling. I did see something strange that said my license wasn't valid, but the license hasn't changed since I initially installed the long-term license.

You don't see any errors in the application server or JBoss log?

My initial thought is to shut down everything, make sure there isn't another instance still running (the 'REPLICA' mode makes me think there is), and restart all the services properly.
