If you create a process to create your users then the system will not send them an email as they would if it's done through the front end of the Appian admin console.

Jacob Edelman If you're addressing a requirement to systematically (i.e. not manually) create one or more users, and not send them a new password email, then yes, the plugin smart service doesn't send an email. It's not uncommon for organizations to do this. So that's the recommendation.

If you're creating the user's manually, as ericg329 suggested, you can bypass the email by setting a temporary password for each user.

If you are creating users through process then Rob's solution is the way to go. If you are creating users through the admin console, you can enter a temporary password to prevent the temporary password email from being sent to the user. Take a look at the User Management documentation for details.

So we will use that smart service instead of the OOTB one that ships with Appian? Also, it cannot be disabled for users added in the Admin Console?

Typically when this is required, administrators and designers will use to Personalization Utilities, which includes the function Create User With i18n.

note:

Create User With i18n:

Allows you to set the locale, the timezone and calendar preferences for the user to be created
- Please note: DOES NOT Send Temporary Credentials Email

Actually i just created a user to test what you have said, I didn't receive any emails with the temporary password that was sent to the email address. I am currently using Appian version 18.2. Maybe it's a bug on my side. But regardless, disabling Appian out of the box functionality isn't recommended, and it's usually not feasible.

When created in the admin console, the email is entered and an email is sent with a temp password.

Can you please elaborate a little bit more. I have created users in Appian without any emails being sent. When you are creating a user, the email field is required, but it doesn't send an email when that user is created - at least that's what i have experienced. When you are resetting the password for a user, i know an email is sent for the link to reset that password.
