did you delete all files of var/temp. how to clear it. will reboot of env clear this.

Thank you. I will check that temp folder for space. And no. The installation path has no spaces at all /uat/appian
I'll check and get back to you on the outcome. Thanks for all your comments.

/var/tmp is where I have found Appian places temp files used for installation on Red Hat Linux. A few times I did not have enough disk space for the install and had to go clean out /var/tmp to reinstall.

I re-downloaded the file, and it had the exact same MD5, so i assume everything is correct. It would be handy if Appian provides the hash for the files they upload, right? Anyways, do you know where does appian extract its files prior to starting the installation? When it says extracting...where is it putting the files?

From other posts, it was suggested that perhaps the installer download was incomplete or corrupted - you could try downloading the installer again. Generally from my experience though, it is a permission/execution issue on one of the directories involved with install.

Target folder being the appian installation folder? If so, yes. I have set chmod as 777 on the appian folder which i manually created.

Have you checked if that user has execute permission on the target directory?
