Run a SAML Trace, capture exactly what the IdP is sending. The KB article KB-1450 specifically covers how to gather a SAML trace to identify the Appian username shown in the SAML assertion — this will tell you definitively what value SBAF is trying to validate against. Appian

When user logs in using SAML, they face 403 access denied error. We checked the users ID and they have the required access levels. When checked on tomcat-stdout logs we see the following issue 'Cannot request SAML Assertion for SBAF Authorize Click since user is not valid for SBAF'. Any leads on this?

Is this user logging in for the first time, or did it work before and suddenly broke?
Still you can check few basic things :-
Check user is active and should be part of SAML Users/authentication group.
Verify the IdP is sending the exact Appian username, with correct case.
If group sync enabled, confirm user is in auth group prior to SAML login, as sync happens post-auth.

Hi,

Is there any log from Appian to see when a specific user was added to a group and by whom for all the existing groups?

Note: I understand we can have a workarounds to track these changes by building custom functionality but I'm particularly looking to see if there is any default functionality / log that I can refer to.

Case Management Studio Portal Issue

Having an issue when attempting to configure cmgt studio portal module.

Errors are:

Incompatible function used. Refactor the portal object precedents to only use functions compatible with portals. Incompatible functions will not work in a published portal. The following precedents use an incompatible function: CMGT_UTIL_SystemTimezone [usertimezone].

Incompatible plug-in(s) detected Refactor the portal object precedents to only use plug-ins compatible with portals. Using incompatible plug-ins can cause the published portal to error. Precedent(s) containing incompatible plug-in(s): CMGT_Document_Sub_UploadDocument [Content Tools], CMGT_UTIL_LoadBrandingMap [Appian Solutions Plugin]

Also CMGT_Portal_Case_IntakeForm is missing from the portal module, is this a known issue?

In addition to what is already informed here about incompatible functions and plugins, you will need to create the intake form. As per documentation, "a Portal Intake Form will need to be created in the Control Panel workspace for each category and type".

Yes, this is an expected limitation with Appian Portals. Since they run in an unauthenticated context, functions like usertimezone() and plug-ins (Content Tools, Appian Solutions) aren’t supported.

You can replace usertimezone() with now() or pass values from the backend, and use a!fileuploadField() for uploads.

This is an expected limitation with Appian Portals. Since portals run in an unauthenticated and restricted environment, functions like usertimezone() (which depend on logged-in user context) and plug-ins such as Content Tools or Appian Solutions are not supported.

You can replace usertimezone() with now() or pass values from the backend, and use native components like a!fileuploadField() along with Web APIs for document handling.

The last time this happened to me, it was resolved by doing a forced logout in the target environment (prod), which traditionally I have not needed to do (opening / closing was always sufficient). If doing a logout doesn't even work for you, as you seem to be saying, then I second Shubham's suggestion to open a support ticket.

Facing issue while deploying to PROD

I am deploying a package to PROD in Appian. One object got depkoyed while other couldn't as deployment completed with errors. When I checked the log, it said the particular object is open. But thing is the object isn't open anywhere. Besides, i also logged out and logged in once to check but still, deployment was failing for the particular object and it is saying the object is being edited by me.

Open the object in PROD and close it properly. This can sometimes trigger the stale lock to release.
Worth trying before raising a support ticket.

Object might have locked in PROD (stale‑locked), so deployment fails even if it looks closed.
I would recommend to wait to clear the session.

That is a real scenario lots of folks start with HTML to CSV and then bump into PDF to CSV which is a bit trickier because PDFs are not structured like HTML tables

what you can do depends on the kind of PDFs you have if they are mostly table‑based then using a tool that can extract tables first makes your life much easier

one simple approach outside your plugin environment is to use a PDF to CSV converter first and then save that Excel as CSV once it looks right inside Excel or Sheets
this gives you a structured intermediate format to work with

Beyond storage and archive cleanup, one area worth investigating closely is code-level performance, particularly how process models and expressions are structured. A few patterns that frequently contribute to memory issues:

1. Nested Loops
Using multiple a!forEach() calls, especially nested ones, or chaining loops over large datasets without pagination, can quietly accumulate memory.

2. Scheduled Processes Running Off-Hours
Check the Process Monitor for any recurring scheduled processes and review their logic for inefficient queries or large in-memory data handling.

3. Integrations and Connected System Calls
Unattended integration calls that return large payloads and store them in process variables (especially Map) can hold memory for the lifetime of a process instance. If those instances aren't completing or cleaning up properly, memory accumulates.

4. Record Volume
Querying without appropriate pagingInfo limits can pull unexpectedly large result sets. These tend to be missed in DEV.

High Memory Usage - DEV site

We’re experiencing recurring high memory usage in our Appian Cloud DEV environment that is leading to emergency restarts. This typically occurs outside of normal development hours, when there is little to no active user activity.

As part of troubleshooting, we have:

Cleared all processes that had stopped due to exceptions
Removed older versions of process models and interfaces
Reviewed for obvious runaway process instances
Reviewed guidance in KB-2011

Despite this cleanup, the memory spikes continue.

Has anyone encountered similar behavior in a DEV environment with low user activity? If so:

Were scheduled processes, integrations, or unattended background jobs the root cause?
Are there specific logs or metrics in Appian Cloud that are most helpful for identifying memory drivers?
Does exporting and removing older, inactive applications from DEV meaningfully reduce memory consumption, or is memory primarily driven by actively executing objects?

Any guidance on deeper diagnostics or best practices for isolating memory usage in Appian Cloud would be greatly appreciated.

Daylight Saving Time changes for UK

We switch our primary timezone from GMT to GMT+1 in the Appian admin console during UK daylight saving time.

In the application, we display all dates using a text() function, like this:

However, as soon as the timezone is updated in the admin console, the displayed date values shift according to the new timezone. This causes the date and time shown in the UI to change even though the stored datetime has not changed.

Is there any way to keep the displayed date consistent regardless of timezone changes?
