Worked I emailed it earlier today and I had an email an hour ago confirming they restarted my instance and it is now correctly showing 23.1

Yes that makes sense also, "communityEdition" is a branch/subset of "community" which focuses on issues related to CE site

Yeah, I assume they both go to related teams of folks at Appian - however I assume the "community edition" specific address (might?) go to a more focused use case, whereas the "community" address might be for matters relevant to the community website as a whole.

Any suggestion on how to contact Appian as it has been 5 days now and I am still on 22.4 and redoing over some of the developer trainings is now not working as it is updated for 23.1 & I am on 22.4. i cant seem to find an email address for the community edition of appian

was able to restart the site again and retain the url will wait a few days and chase them next week

Honestly I'd just wait a few more days - I don't think there's any guarantee that shutting it down and restarting it will force the upgrade. Note that the only way you get a different instance / URL is if the old one is deleted - either from the 1-month activity timeout, or if you utilize the option in your control panel (not just "shutdown" / "restart").

i checked the version before posting. and I was on the old one. just wanted to practice some stuff as I am new to all this. I home shutting it down and asking for the same region will get me on the same virtual machine so I don't have the headache of asking our IT department to allow me to access the site again as it was url specific to the vwra.appian.community that was allowed through our firewall

Mine upgraded overnight a day or two ago. I expect that others are in queue to do so automatically; however I'd also note that my upgrade from 22.3 to 22.4 never happened automatically, and I specifically had to ask about it (so don't wait forever before asking, I guess). I agree it would be nice getting a bit more information about this up-front.

Since you have manually restarted CE site from a shutdown, may be you will not get the update now.

It also says:

So, to get latest version, you need to request a new environment
