It can be mostly License model. In order to get on premise Appian License from Appian, you have provide few details to Appian like no of users, specify environment type whether it is non prod or prod and support type if required and other details, then Appian will revert back with pricing details.

I think it is always a subscription-based model. But Appian might have a more precise answer for you.

A rough estimate of the pricing is also available on their website - appian.com/.../pricing.html
