You will need to figure out a way to get an app export of just your core app components, excluding user-generated files. I'm a little unclear how they could have been added to your app package in the first place, since as far as I know they'd need to be added manually.

You may need to resort to creating a fresh app package and only including the app's core components in it (and/or adding them to that new app while searching by object type from the original package).

I don't know why you would need to import 5 gigs of user-generated files. Generally these should be excluded from any sort of import, unless i'm severely misunderstanding your use case.

Mike Schmitt and Stefan Helzle , i have another question for you two:

The app I want to export has 12 thousand user generated files. Sadly, because of a previous deploy from another evironment, 6 thousand files were deployed into the app. So the exported app package weighs at apprx 5.5 gigs.

As you might already know, appian has a 1 gig size limit for packages to import.

is there any way to export the app package without these files, or maybe a way for appian to allow us to import the 5 gigabyte package?

Okay interesting, that makes sense. I assumed that by "exporting" an application, I was exporting everything from an app, including files uploaded by users. But now I understand that i am actually exporting the app itself, and as you mentioned the files wont be affected by my deploy so i can simple re-import the app to do the rollback. as Stefan pointed out, files uploaded by end users in your Prod environment would not be affected at all by a deployment, so wouldn't be something you'd generally need to worry about rolling back.

They are files uploaded by end users that are stored in an Appian folder.

Thank you. is there any kind of restriction for exporting and importing apps into appian? Because this specific system contains several thousands of image files.

My best suggestion is to do an export of the current version of your app from the target environment. There isn't "rollback" functionality per se, but for almost every object type you should be able to deploy a backup export of the older version over top of the updated version and everything will iterate "back" to the original state.
