Same issue i am facing. How to do settings where we can expose our sql server to appian instance?

I am using Appian community version and need to pick database tables from sql server installed on my machine.

You can simply search for it on Google. That requires taking a DB server on a hosting for the ease. Or it requires keeping your laptop connected to internet always and making it public (steps could be found on google or Bard or chatGPT)

That won't work unless you can expose your local laptop database to the internet.

i am using the cloud community environment and trying to configure the local DB installed on my laptop.

But regardless, based on the limited information you provided, I'm assuming that you're probably trying to access a local database on your laptop from either a cloud or on-prem instance. In both cases, you need to make sure that your database is visible to the Appian instance.

Not sure what else to say beyond that if you're not willing to share more information.

Are you sure you have access to this database from the Appian instance? Are you trying to access an on-prem database from the cloud by any chance?

in connection URL the hidden part is my <hostname:portnumber>
and username is what SQL server uses with Windows authentication and password is same as what i use for system.
what am i doing wrong here.

Nowadays we prefer to configure a data source using a connected system instead of the admin console.

So your DB administrator should have given you a port number and an IP address that you use to access the DB in your tool (DBeaver, SQL workbench) which is your <yourserver.example.com> followed by the port number.
Finally, you add your DB name in place of <your_db_name> and that is how you build a connection string.

Connection string is generated while You created a schema in Table (Did you saved it anywhere?) .

i have already gone through that and selected SQL server in the type category but nowhere does it mentions the format and sequence of the other inputs. Also it doesn't give clear instructions for creating a connected system.

please explain this further:
Example: jdbc:sqlserver://yourserver.example.com:1433;databaseName=your_db_name

If you select the "Type" then a sample connection string will appear. You can copy that, make necessary changes to it, and paste it there.
I will advise to go for creating a connected system instead of configuring a Data source in Admin Console
