Same here.

We use records extensively but not always within the context of Tempo.

Feels like the button should only appear IF there is an associated feed for the record.

Would help reduce a lot of confusion.

This is one of the biggest questions I keep getting as well - our experiences are the same as Christine. Most of the complaints I receive are that a record was followed but the users are not being notified of any changes - the function is not very intuitive for our end users, and they are using it often since the button is very obvious on the page.

This comes up a lot. The main reason is that users think it does more than it does. They immediately think if anything at all changes on the record, they will be notified. Since many users don't hover on posts on the news feed to unsubscribe plus the news feed is already filtered for them, it just seems for placement alone it should do more.

Not really.. But I'm curious, what's the reason? In the next version of Appian, the Follow button is positioned on the Right corner with a nice looking Icon rather than the Green Button. If its the look and feel, its lot nicer in the new version.
