So this solves my immediate problem, but I think it should be addressed in as improvement to F4A.

Mike,
The timeout issue seems to be rooted in that the original command:
| populate field | Select GSM | with |gsm1 |
The value "gsm1" is being processed as "gsm 1" by Appian.
This works in the dropdown, but results in Fitnesse being unable to find what it was looking for.

Chris, can you configure your test to stop at this step and then manually inspect the source to confirm that the element listed in the exception is actually present in this structure? If not, it could be a defect in F4A.

I attempted this but no success. It seems like the error message might be wrong in that it's reporting that the field is not available, but if you watch the test run, it's found quickly and there's no problem actually populating it. As far as I can tell this is either a false-positive or I'm missing something about how it's working. Again, the field gets populated and the test moves on. The only reason I look at this at all is because there's an error message that says "Timeout."

Might want to set the timeout longer then 10 seconds, depending on how long the page takes to render and reset the timeout afterwards.
