Hey Harsha, I am not aware of a way to take a screenshot automatically in Appian without developing a plugin. It seems from what I've read that the issue is not high enough priority that you would want to create a document representing the page, so I have an idea for a solution that required less Dev time. You could create an interface that allows a user to give a short explanation of the error using a!paragraphField. Then give the user the ability to upload a screenshot of the problem using a!fileUploadField. Lastly, submit the form to send this data out to the process model and use the Send E-Mail smart service to send the email within Appian.

I think is Appian error, correct?, in this scenario RPA can work, or the robot class, or an extension in the browser, or an external application(screenshot tool) that at the end sends all the information to Appian, for example using WEBAPI.

Anyway, can you give examples of the errors you want to capture? How can this not be catch in the program/code?

BTW, when I said testing purposes I meant user acceptance, but as you said help desk sounds like production.

Robot should be a stand alone program (outside or Appian in the client side.

we are not using it for Testing purpose this is like if there is any issue in the screen we need to report it helpdesk.

we have already thinking of this option of using the RPA (BP) and get the doc from the output.

That was the last thing I was thinking about, but I have a quick question, if we write a plugin to take screenshot will it be taking the screenshot in on the server side or Client side.

Wow !! robot class, long time I haven't heard about it. Well to call that class you need to execute in a GUI since the Plugin execution is in the server most of the time with no GUI. Unless I am missing something.

BTW what does it means OOB?

The java robot class can take screenshots. You can make a plugin that calls it. As others have said, this is not OOB.

If you intend to make this for testing purposes there are lot of tools which can help you.

Well if you want to really make screenshots of the screen and send it thru mail, then you can start thinking about some robots, blueprism for example, you can take screen shots after opening Appian. But this is something extra to Appian.

But if you are reporting errors, please define what is an error?

for example SAIL exceptions(red box) because there are coding malpractices, then I think this can be solved.

If you are talking about external systems, then the robot can be a good option.

How often are you getting errors? Do you really need to automate the issues reporting?

Anyway if you are automating the error capture I think the most time consuming is to document how you got it, in this case you can make use of the process history and or implementing your own transition log. And the user can help you to get the screenshot.

You can always ask Appian to incorporate extra functionality like this, stackoverflow.com/.../6678156

Are you using an standard browser (everybody uses the same browser)? What about doing it thru the browser for example have an extension that take the screenshot and send an email to Appian, then appian starts the process based on the received email?

Are you in cloud? Using mobile app? Or just web?

I am afraid I don't think there is any way through which you can achieve it. So last thing I can suggest is to create a custom plugin to take screenshot of the screen and then use it.

Thanks for the reply harsha, but for me the scenario is there are so many screens and sub tabs in that so cannot be going with that approach. Is there any other way to take a screenshot.

To get the most similar look and feel of the Appian screen I strongly recommend to use XSL-FO option from (dynamic document Gen plugin) , which is a way to control the whole PDF.

AFAIK we can't take screenshots in Appian. As a work around, you can create a template similar to the screen you want to take screenshot of and then generate a doc/pdf with a click of link/button placed on screen. It can serve as a screenshot though not exactly a screenshot.
