If I recall correctly, before those group rules were locked, so you couldn't change which users were selected to the 'Tempo Users'.

But now, as you said, it's possible to change them and remove users from access Tempo.

I believe it can be achieved by selectively adding groups which need access to the 'Tempo Users' system group. By doing so, all the remaining groups will be restricted accessing the Tempo. By default 'all users' are added to this group by Membership rule 'add all users'.

Yes, I am aware of this but it will still allow the user to access tempo, i.e. tempo will not be blocked. I confirmed directly with Appian that this is the intended behaviour as per design. The rationale provided made sense but personally I am on the fence about this one. In particular if you want certain users to have a sites only experience. Careful consideration needs to be given when an environment is shared by internal and external users.

Hi Philip,

You can directly configure the site URL in user start page, so once the user logins, he directly navigates so site page, so for him the tempo page will not be visible.

I don't think it's possible to disable tempo access as of now. There is no way to do that.

You can set User Start Page from Admin settings but currently you cannot disable the access to /tempo interface.

Hi Gary,

A user cannot be blocked from accessing tempo, as the user needs collaboration (news) which is available in tempo. And other things in tempo can be restricted based on permission levels.

I had a thought... I'm not a website manager, so I don't know exactly how feasible this may be, or if it would work with Appian Cloud.

But I was thinking about a project I was on. During Appian Deployments, we would set up a maintenance page to redirect end-users and mitigate system usage during deployment. Appian was still up, but anyone hitting suite/temp received a simple "Site is under scheduled maintenance, please come back later".

So this got me thinking, why not just do that, except permanent? Instead of a site maintenance page, you could probably just redirect to the main Appian Site, or perhaps just a directory of the sites on your platform.

Again, I'm no website guru, and don't even know if this is feasible on cloud, but as many have reported, it's not possible to do this with Appian itself. You'll need some kind of 301 redirect or DNS forwarding, or something outside of Appian that will manage traffic for your sites. Here's a couple resources I found, which may provide more information and possible solutions.

Hi garym this functionality is not available till Appian v17.4, but yes I agree, we should have some options to disable the access to tempo, and Appian should look into providing this feature.

However if we set proper security to the end user, then it doesn't make any difference to them, because they can't view anything in tempo, where they don't have permission to, except news tab which is an additional one, which we can't integrate in site.

I believe, this might be one of the strong reason, behind providing access of tempo to the end user, in case if they want to have a look into the news events.

Unfortunately this is not possible. One thing you can do is create a landing page for that user/group and have some verbiage that says they don't have access to tempo. Also, they shouldn't have user rights to reports, records,actions....etc
