I have a process generating a pdf file and is stored in a Documents folder.
How can a specific user print out the pdf file.
Is there any 'print' functionality in Appian?
any ideas how to go forward on this is appreciable.

Thanks

It gave me deep insight.
Currently we are in 17.2 version and this is not achievable as of now in our environment.
As others have noted, just providing a document download link or something similar should be all you need to do for your part. Besides, depending on how a hypothetical print function worked and was used, it would have a pretty high risk to cause some bad user experiences.

RE: Print a pdf document

Thanks Dastagiri.
However, the Document Viewer component might simulate the behavior you're hoping to achieve.

On my local windows machine, when I display PDFs in the document viewer component, It displays a print control that appears to interact with the printing capabilities of the machine.

As is mentioned in the notes for the document viewer component:

Document viewing behavior differs depending on the document type and browser. Some browsers may render documents inline, while other browsers or file types may be downloaded. Browser plug-ins or extensions may impact this behavior. Consider the browsers that your users will be using to access your application.

Thus it's possible that this only works this way for me because of the plugins and software I have installed on my PC.
You'll need to test to your satisfaction to ensure this approach is suitable in your environment.

In the task form create a document download link. Once the user clicks the document document will be downloaded. When downloaded document gets open, user can have print option.

1. Create a form with document down load link.

2. Configure the task node (preferably after generating the pdf document) by configuring the above form as task form.

RE: Print a pdf document

Hi,

There is no OOTB functionality for printing available currently in Appian. The only way is you can create your own plug-in.

Please refer following links, they might be helpful as work around.

AFAIK, there is no print functionality available directly in Appian. For achieving the same, you can try few of the things below:
1. As an alternative, save the document on to local machine and achieve the functionality.
2. Using window.print() in javascript : this will be done through browser and varies from each browser on the settings existing. Infact, using Ctlr+p this can be achieved.
3. Create a new plugin-in

Thanks.
