The sub-process needs to be told which index you want to use so you'll need to pass the tp!instanceIndex from the calling process to the sub-process if you want to use it. As far as the sub-process instance is concerned there's only one instance of itself.

You do not pass any data into that sub process. Is that by intention?

Please post a screenshot of the tab "Setup" of that sub process node.
