Sure. I have a process model. I want to cancel a task in that process model (from another Process model). I am able to do this but I also want to trigger to cancel the process instance (with that task)? Hope it is clearer...

Hey John Pang, thanks for your response but I did not get you. I am asking how about how exactly do we check that the task is cancelled to send out pv!cancel = true in the output? Since the user is not cancelling it, it is being cancelled from another process.

I believe what has been discussed involves creating a buttonWidget (set submit to true) in the interface that saves true() into a boolean ri value e.g. ri!cancel. This value would then be mapped to a pv in the process model which will be processed by an XOR to determine the appropriate process flow.

Can you please share how were you able to identify when the task is cancelled to be able to set your process variable (pv!cancel) to true.? (Referring to this part : "On the output of the task if not cancelled then set the value to False.")

You did give me an idea though. What I could do is set for example pv!cancel to "True" and then setup an XOR in my email notification. On the output of the task if not cancelled then set the value to False. the the XOR decision is if pv!cancel is True which it would be if the task had been cancelled then terminate the process for if false go ahead and send the email.

I've just tested it and you're right. The flow halts on cancellation.

What I have seen from monitoring a process when cancelling a user input task is that the node highlight just changes from Green to Blue indicating that the task is completed but there is no flow out of that task. So I am not quite sure how to set up this XOR to check a PV and then terminate the event since upon cancelling the task there is no out flow.

You could try adding a temporary pv and an XOR gate that checks the value of the pv. If the task was completed, a value may be assigned to the pv. If it was cancelled, then the value would be null and the flow would then be directed by the XOR to a Terminate End Event.

It would seem that I need to have a receive message node tied to a terminate process node. What message is given off when a User Input Task is cancelled that the receive message node can receive to trigger the Terminate Process Event.?

Not sure how to do this. I looked at the documentation and it would seem that I need to configure some message from that node to terminate the process as a whole. So for example: I have a User Input Task "Complete Timesheet". In the portal I go in and cancel that task. What you are saying then is that action should trigger a message to an End Event to terminate the entire process. I do not see where in the User Input task you can configure this.

You could add a Terminate End Event that will be triggered when the task is cancelled. Check the "Results" section in the link below for information on the Terminate event -
