Direct uploads use your user context, making you the document creator so it appears in Recent Objects.
Process-generated documents are created by the system/process account, so they don't show in your Recent Objects since you're not technically the creator.

Do you mean uploaded by a user in a task?

In this case, the document would never appear in an "application" unless you manually go into some application and add that document, for some reason. But after the task is submitted by the user, such document WILL appear in "all objects" as normal.

The document you upload from a workflow gets stored in the target folder, but it is not included in the application.

However, when you upload a document inside the application using Appian Designer, it is stored in the target folder and included in the application.

If you exit the application and check for all environment documents, you will find the workflow-uploaded document listed under "Recent."
