The best way is by using Upload File smart service. Alternatively, you can also try using base64 format but be cautious as it impacts performance when multiple & large operations are performed. One more point is even if there are less operations, the output that we get is of more size than the actual document that is sent.

Hello Justin, yes you are correct. The content type required for the API is binary. As multi-part is so being supported by Appian 18.3, I tried with it. Any idea how to convert the appian document in binary format?

I can't quickly find a RAML/API definition for these creation calls, so this is a total guess, but I'm wondering if the content-type of that second multi-part request should be binary instead of JSON.
