You can control and configure the task assignments from the Assignment tab and have the activity chaining to achieve the wizard like functionality.

I did this. Now when the integration is called in Application 1, the user input task form is assigned as a task in Application 2. I want the user input task to open in Application 1 itself.

Oh Ok. You mean i can call a process model in one app into another using the rule! is it?

Use of start form doesn't look appropriate for your use case. Instead use User Input Task immediately after start node and make sure the RI data types are correct.

How about you open this interface, fill in all the details and then pass the data to the integration?
Also, to communicate between two apps, you don't need integrations. You can do it via process models only.
If the trigger point is outside Appian, then you can use integrations but only for sending the data. Showing interface won't work because of obvious reasons.

I want to call this process model from another application to create a new employee record. i want the start form interface to appear upon calling the integration.

You mentioned that you used a startForm. To me, it sounds confusing as it only makes sense when someone manually triggers that process from the Appian. What was the reason behind it?

the process model works fine. But when i use it in web api it gives the above error

Can you also show the properties of the pv!record variable in process properties?
