I am trying to upload docs to sharepoint from Appian.

We are able to convert with "Content Type = Custom (multipart/form-data)"
However, the document that uploaded in Sharepoint Online is unable to open.

Tried with our recently upgraded 18.3 environment and with the OOTB feature, it works like a charm~

Hey! Great to know that!

But I believe App registration at SharePoint is not required as we are already giving access to the App at Azure Active Directory to access the SharePoint.

Works like a charm! Thanks! But I would like to remind that the prerequisite to complete this is that you will also need to have the permission setup/app registered at the site collection/location that you want to upload your document.

So in 18.1 Appian Integration Object doesnt support file upload, We tried with converting doc to Base64 but we had no success in doing so.

Hi Chanakya, can you confirm that you are able to use the connected systems and integration object to integrate with Sharepoint Online? May I know what version of Appian you attempted this?

Hi Alok, are you able to use the connected systems with oAuth2.0 on Sharepoint Online? We failed the last time we tried doing so. We are on v18.1c. Appian support told us the following:

"Our product team has investigated this integration pattern and found that Sharepoint Online uses a nonstandard implementation for its authentication. As such, the Sharepoint Online OAuth 2.0 authentication strategy is not compatible with the currently supported Appian OAuth 2.0 strategy.

Specifically, the product team found the following items:

- the resource parameter IS needed to be placed in the _body_ of the request, and Appian currently does not support arbitrary parameters being added to the body of the token request.

- the client ID must be in two different formats when it is first sent to the Authorization endpoint and then when it is sent to the Token endpoint. This is also not currently supported by Appian.

As such, I can raise a use case to have supported added for Sharepoint's particular authentication requirements, but the product does not support it at this stage. If you have the appropriate expertise on-site (or through a PS/partner engagement), its possible that you could perform the integration using a plugin."

I finally figured it out. I have included ?resource=https://mytenantname.sharepoint.com in https://login.microsoftonline.com/common/oauth2/authorize?resource=https://mytenantname.sharepoint.com(Authorization URL)and it worked like a charm. :)

Thank you very much for the detailed info. I am now able to authenticate successfully and it seems like Refresh Token is also captured. But when I used this Connected System in the Integration where I am trying to upload document, I am getting the error below.

Here are the step :

1. Login to Azure
2. Navigate to "Azure Active Directory" in the left hand pane
3.Under Azure Active Directory Navigate to App Registrations
4.Create New Application Registration
5. Name the App, Set Type to Web App/API, sign-on URL can be your appian instance url
6. In callback url copy paste it from the appian connected system
7.In permissions add Sharepoint Online

Hi Arun,

You can follow below mentioned steps to identify / resolve this issue:

Cross-Check your request headers such as Bearer while posting the data(POST, PUT etc..) to Sharepoint, and in order to use this header you will need an accessToken, which you can only obtain only upon the successful Authentication as it's response.
If you are able to Authenticate successfully but unable to receive the accessToken then i would recommend you to re-verify Authorization Endpoint, Access Token Endpoint, Client Id, Client Secret etc.. with the Sharepoint team, as i suspect your Token Request Endpoint URL, if all correct and still you are unable to receive a token upon successful authentication, try doing the same test using some Third-Party tools such as SOAP-UI and compare the response.
Also it's worth discussing with sharepoint team by sharing the Trace ID and the Correlation ID you have to identify the root cause from their end.

Hope you will be able to trace out the root cause of this failure.

Hi,

So the Authorization Endpoint and Token Request Endpoint seems to be different then what I usually use.

We use Authorization Endpoint as following

login.microsoftonline.com/xxxxxxx/oauth2/authorize URI trying to access"

XXXXXXXXXX is the resource id of the sharepoint which can be accessed from Azure

and Token Endpoint is as following

login.microsoftonline.com/xxxxxxxx/oauth2/token

XXXXXXXX is the same resource id used in the auth endpoint.
