Appian will not give an error for a missing rule input if the rule input exists.. If you would like some additional troubleshooting help, please attach a screen shot of the expression line 76 with the error message and rule input configuration visible.

You will need to configure a rule input for subCategory - your initial sample contained rule inputs for category, subCategory, reportingDateTime and Description. The only input change in my example was switching availableSubCategories from a rule input to a local variable.

Regarding line 42-48, you cannot declare ri! (rule inputs) in your interface as you do here. Documentation is here related to Interface Variables and Inputs.

Instead this would be declared as a local variable, such as:
