hi Naresh, i am new to Appian so really don't know what might be happening but I have just responded to Stewart with more details and another scenario how I made index() stuff work by storing the ac!Variables into another pv botVariables. pls have a look

Some more experiments I did..

I saved the AC!Variables into another pv botVariables of type 'Map'

Now in another node in a script task I am doing this - Index on botVariables and this works perfectly fine

this time restaurantList is populated with values ..

Now I have 2 questions

1) why index() on botVariables works when I am storing ac!Variables into botVariables but why index() directly on ac!Variables not working.

2) why 'dot' works and not index() on ac!Variables

I sincerely hope i can go on a video call with you ..anyway let me know if you see any issue here.

Again, I have a work around so this is not blocking.

Tro to re-create the same scenario in an expression rule with the same rule inputs.
You can try to implement various suggestions like using property() or flatten() the value. Also, you will be able to check the execution of the expression.

The difference here when you use dot notation if your process variable is not an array type I think it is taking the value and casting appropriate type. When you use the index it returns list of values, because of this it may ignoring the values (It shouldn't ignore return value, if that is happening it is an issue with Appian). Also as Stewart mentioned what is your process variable type.

What data type is your target 'restaurantList' ? Are you able to share the datatype?

After I run the BOT, AC!Variables has this

{restaurant=[restaurantID=1, restaurantName=True Food Kitchen, restaurantStatus=Status: Permitted, inspectionDate=6/19/2396], healthDepartmentWebsite=https://inspections.myhealthdepartment.com/va-arlington}

It's hard to tell from what you've provided what structure you're expecting to be returned in ac!Variables. Without insight into this we cannot advise as to how to address the 'restaurant' attribute in the structure.
