I have a datefield component. If I entered incorrect date format then it is showing some inbuilt error message than it should be in mm//dd/YYYY format but I want to display "Please enter a valid format".
Can this requirement be possible?

RE: Date field

That is not possible with the date field but you will be able to achieve it if you try to use a textField and then validate the format.
Also, the date field provides a date picker where you can actually select the date instead of writing it. So I think that is better than building a custom functionality around it.
