I would suggest that you contact Appian to submit a feature request to allow to do this natively.

This cannot be changed. Alternatives are difficult because accessibility depends on the standard way.

I would love if they would add the option of setting the label width.

In the meantime, the workaround (which I don't recommend) is to separate the label from the field by using a sideBySideLayout with a richTextField for the label and the label set as collapsed on the field.
