What do you mean by "handle"? You are going to find very few things will touch ".doc", being the old proprietary microsoft word format that was prominent prior to the shift to the OOXML (".docx") open-source format.

ak0642 I have business requirement to handle ".doc" .I have tried to use copy document smart service but I m seeing the below error when the file is opened..Did copy document smart service worked for you...can you please share me the link

I have resolved this by with alternative solution, by copying the document into new document with copydocument smart service.

You can also argue doc is not appian supported format for extractions.

You might want to check out the paid plug-in originally named "PDF Tron" but now branded "Apryse" - it seems to be able to inherently handle a wider variety of document formats etc. Plus unless something's changed, you can try it for free first to see if it works for your files.

If you're referring to the old, closed, proprietary Microsoft Word ".doc" format that predated the open ".docx" format, then i'm not sure there is a built-in converter for Appian. There may be a plug-in that can handle them.

Yikes, this isn't true, and it's not even close.

".doc" is the (much) older, proprietary format; ".docx" is the open, XML / WordML based format (which is just a ZIP container containing plaintext human-readable XML files you can open and edit). A convertor that recognizes DOCX files wouldn't have the first clue how to deal with a .doc file. And if a document is actually docx but has been named with the .doc extension, that is a severe type mismatch.

If your Word documents are stored in the binary file format "Word 97-2003 Document", then that smart service will not work. It only works with the XML based document file formats.

I suggest to check the app market for plugins.

"doc" and "docx" are the same file format. Did you try that smart service?
