Hi inder, i have requirements to generate dynamic document with table where rows can be change according to the provided values, kind of a newbie in appian can help me with this please, how to approach this how to create a template.

Hi Venkanna,

I can able to generate Dynamic table using Docx from Dynamic template smart service but facing an issue. I have 4 columns each has to display list of users. For single column it is working fine. But when i place 4 columns, duplicate rows are getting generated like (no of first column values * no of columns)

Ex: First column has 5 values and table has 4 columns. 20 rows are getting generated.

Please let me know if you have any solution.

Excuse me, is the shared component name "Dynamic Document Generator"? I can't find the "DOCX From Dynamic Template" smart service on it.

Hi,

You can use smart service "DOCX From Dynamic Template" to generate the DOCX with dynamic number of rows based on the XML you pass. For the Word Template you should see the attached image below to get an idea about how you can create a template.

Later if you want to create a PDF you can use smart service "PDF from DOCX".

FYI, I am attaching the system of rules I developed to handle word doc table generation, which includes a demo process model which you can run and try out the generation, and then hopefully use as a template for using this system with your other data.

One word of caution: presumably due to the custom nature of the wordML being used here, I've gotten feedback from elsewhere that if a Word doc is generated using this functionality but then converted to PDF via the Appian smart service, the tables won't work correctly in the resulting PDF. However they look fine in the Word doc itself.

In my version (which probably works differently), the whole table is put into one word doc replacement field.

Hi Mike, Can you please give me a brief knowledge about how to build a table arbitrary number of columns. I have build one with arbitrary number of rows. But since i am providing a template with fixed column headers i am not able to build table with arbitrary columns

I've done this myself, and to do it I had to build rules to inject the correct wordML code into the docx, from the ground up. But in doing so, I was able to build tables with arbitrary number of rows and columns, with added dynamic formatting (bold, underline, etc), and at least somewhat settable column widths.

Yes I have created a dynamic DOCX in which rows are adding dynamically as per the list i pass in XML. But can i increase the columns based on something, because as per my knowledge we have to pass a template to create a DOCX file in which beforehand i have to provide the columns. Please find below screenshot of the template. Here I have fixed Name, Last Name and Mail. Suppose I want to add one more column "dynamically" like Phone Number. Can that be done?

If you use ncolumntable and create the table that you required and convert it as an Image then set it on to DOCX document.

I have already created a document which dynamically adds rows depending on size of List. But what i need now is to dynamically add columns depending upon certain condition. Is that possible?

Try with RTF document type. It works with the same smart service but has ability to dynamically add rows to the table. I guess that would serve to your requirement.
