We are using Rich Text plugin(Vuram) in our application and facing multiple issues some of them are

- Copy the data in specific format and paste that in the editor. This does not maintain the formatting but disturbs the copied formatting

- Generating some extra metadata within HTML tags causing failure in the document generation

- Nested list items is not maintained too

What are the options we have available to avoid such issues as the data formatting while copy paste or manual is prime requirement with the proper HTML generated by the plugin.

PDF Document From DOCX fails for large document export

I am looking for some guidance on generating large PDF documents in Appian.

We have an existing site page that displays more than 13,000 records. As part of an export feature, we retrieve the data, generate XML content, generate a word document and then convert it to PDF (using Advanced Document Templating plugin).

Currently, the export process retrieves around 3,000 records. Each record contains several large text fields (around 5 - 6 columns) so the overall amount of content is quite large. The word document is generated successfully and is about 768 KB in size and has approximately 5 million characters.

The issue occurs during the word to PDF conversion. The conversion starts, but it appears to consume significant resources and causes the environment to become unavailable.

My questions are:

1. Are there any known character limits for Word to PDF conversion plugin?
2. Are there any alternative plugins or approaches that are better suited for large documents?

I understand that reducing the amount of data being exported may be an option, and I will discuss that with the product owner. However, before making any functional changes, I would like to understand the technical limitations and best practices for handling large document conversions in Appian.

Special characters getting removed with clean function in documents

Hi , I am facing an issue in pdf generation. that sometimes frech and spanish letters getting eliminated from the document generated , letters like à, é. ó. I am using clean fucntion before passing the sentences to do document template. If I don't use clean the generated document dont even getting saved in the process output even for english templates. Below is smart services I use to get the pdf generated.

Hi all,

I have a requirement to send a Excel file generated in Appian to an external system via SFTP (Send File) Plug in.

Current Implementation:

1. I am using the export data store entity to excel smart service to generate an excel.
2. The generated Excel file is successfully created in Appian Documents and stored in a process variable.
3. In the next node I am using SFTP send file plugin to transfer the file to an external system.
4. The SFTP connection details(hostname, port, authentication details) were provided by the external team.

SFTP Plugin Configuration:

I have added this in a expression rule for file transfer configuration input.

Document to send: process variable containing the excel document generated by the export data store entity to Excel smart service.

Remote File Path : Currently left Blank

Issue:

The process model completes successfully without any errors. The excel file is generated correctly in appian, and the SFTP node also completes successfully.
However the external system team confirms that they are not receiving the file on their end .

Questions:

1. Is the Remote File Path mandatory in the SFTP send file plugin? If yes , what value should be provided?

2. How can I verify whether the file was actually transferred to the SFTP server?

3. Are there any plugin logs , reports or appian server logs that can hep validate the file transfer ?

4. Has anyone faced a similar issue where the process completes successfully but the file is not available on the destination server?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

As this section would also part of Table of contents. I want to update TOC dynamically. is it feasible with the plug in?

Advanced Rich Text Editor - Maximum size limit reached before 4000 characters

I am using the Advanced Rich Text Editor component (Vuram) and have set the maximum size limit to 4000. When testing, I noticed that the component shows 100% usage when I enter around 3700 plain text characters, even without any formatting.

My assumption is that the component stores the content as HTML and the size calculation includes not only the text I enter but also the HTML tags generated by the editor. When I checked the source, the total HTML content length was around 3989 characters, which is very close to the configured limit of 4000.

Is my understanding correct, or am I missing something? Has anyone else experienced this behavior or knows how the size limit is calculated?

Any insights would be appreciated.

HTML Template in send email smartservice

I created email template in word and needed to add the logo image so I added it using insert and uploaded the template as document in appian, after I used this template in send email node in process model so while I am opening the mail I am not able to see logo image. some error come as "linked image cannot be shown. File may be moved or deleted. Verify that link points to correct file and location" Can anyone help me in this issue.

GridPlus - I probably need a related action to update only the edited recs

I have GridPlus implemented nicely and does the basic editing and saving as it should, what a great plug in!

But... we have a requirement added to create a related record which would link the edited items to a known key value in a related table.

Since both the queryRule and gridsubmitchanges->editModel are kind of rigidly defined, I've been thinking of ways to accomplish adding the record to join the edited rows with the other table.

Can a related action apply to just the 'edits' / is there a way to pass that?

I explored the possibility of a 'tempKey' in the queryRule's queryRecordType, but can't really insert that known key value there. If I could just get the data into the record, then the editModel could do the additional writerecords & sync.

Is there some simple way to accomplish this without having to get heavy handed by maybe writing to another data store to be re-read in the editModel? (so it would know "any records updated from this grid with these record keys must associate the stored key that I just re-read"?

I understand the code how we can loop through the rows in a grid but how can we loop the grid itself? eg: If I have 5 employees under Labor grid I want 5 different grids dynamically created based on syntax!

PDF from html plugin - Overflow of the text in normal paragraph field

Custom plugin 26.3, content service

I am working on a custom plugin, I am curious as if there was a change in Appian version 26.3, I use content service to open a file and get the input stream, like I have down with versions 25 and older, I was curious if there was a change in how the content service works and how to properly open a file inside a custom smart service.

Code I am using:

PDF From DOCX Not Preserving Line Breaks from Dynamic Paragraph Text

I’m facing an issue while generating a PDF from a dynamically generated Word document.

Requirement:

Capture multi-line text from an Appian UI Paragraph Field
Populate it into a DOCX template using DOCX From Dynamic Template
Convert the generated DOCX to PDF using PDF From DOCX
Both smart services are from the Advanced Document Templating plugin

Issue:

The DOCX file is generated correctly and preserves all line breaks as expected.
However, when converting the DOCX to PDF, the line breaks are not rendered in the PDF output.

What I’ve tried so far:

Replacing char(10) with the XML equivalent 

Tested multiple variations, but the issue still persists
Implemented solutions suggested in the references below

Question about Japanese text support in HTML To PDF Conversion plug-in

I am currently evaluating the HTML To PDF Conversion plug-in for generating PDF documents in Appian.

The basic conversion flow works correctly:

I can pass an HTML file as the source document.
The Smart Service generates a PDF document.
The generated PDF can be saved in Appian.

However, I am having an issue with Japanese text.

The HTML file displays Japanese characters correctly when opened as HTML, but after converting it to PDF, the Japanese characters are rendered as #### in the PDF. English text and numbers are displayed correctly.

I have already tried the following, but the result did not change:

Added <meta charset="UTF-8"/>
Specified Japanese fonts in CSS, such as:
- Noto Sans CJK JP
- Noto Sans JP
- Meiryo
- Yu Gothic
- Arial Unicode MS
Specified Open Sans, which is used in the Appian UI
Removed the <style> tag entirely to check whether CSS was the cause

My questions are:

Does this plug-in support Japanese / CJK / Unicode characters when converting HTML to PDF?
Is there any way to specify or embed a Japanese font for the PDF conversion?
Does the plug-in support @font-face or base64-embedded fonts?
Are there any recommended settings or workarounds for generating Japanese PDF files?
If this plug-in does not support Japanese text, is there another recommended Appian plug-in or approach for generating PDFs with Japanese content?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

MS Graph Poller Context

We are using the MS Graph Poller plugin & am trying to poll an outlook mailbox, the data gets properly persisted into the DB but i would like to know how do we identify the current record context, right now its not returning any record id back, it only give Mailcount processed but not any id to piggy back the record.

Can someone please let me know on this, am trying to get hold of the documentation for this.

Issue with Dynamic Document Generator Plugin - Bold/Italic Formatting Lost in PDF Output After Update

Hi everyone, we are encountering an issue after updating the Dynamic Document Generator plugin to the latest version from AppMarket (from v2.2.2 to v3.0.3)

Issue Summary:
When generating a PDF using the “PDF from Single DOCX with Fonts” Smart Service, text formatting such as bold and italic is no longer applied in the resulting PDF.

Current Setup:
- HTML Doc from Template Smart Service
- HTML → DOCX via XHTML Smart Service
- DOCX → PDF via PDF from Single DOCX with Fonts Smart Service
- Fonts provided via constant as Appian Documents (Font folder includes Source Sans Pro (TTF and OTF))

Observations:
- The generated DOCX file correctly shows formatting (bold and italic)
- Inspecting the DOCX XML confirms formatting tags:
- <w:b/> for bold
- <w:i/> for italic
- However, the PDF output renders all text as regular (no bold/italic)

Troubleshooting Performed
We attempted the following with no success:

1. Updated style rules and changed font family from Appian Open Sans to Source Sans Pro
2. Updated the Font Documents input of the “PDF from Single DOCX (with Fonts)” Smart Service
- Used folder containing OTF files for Source Sans Pro
3. Updated the Template Document used in the “DOCX from XHTML” Smart Service
- Switched to the most recent version created via Microsoft Word
4. Recreated both DOCX from XHTML and PDF from Single DOCX (with Fonts) nodes
- Replicated configuration from original nodes
5. Previously tested:
- Multiple fonts (Arial, Source Sans Pro)
- TTF and OTF formats
- Reduced font sets (regular, bold, italic, bold italic only)
- Verified fonts are correctly referenced in DOCX (w:ascii="Arial" / Source Sans Pro)

Key Finding
The issue appears to occur specifically during the PDF rendering stage, as:
- Formatting is preserved in DOCX
- Formatting is lost only in PDF output

I'm using Advanced Document Templating plugin for a document generation where i have multiple chapters, and in each chapter i have have a conditional statement that if in the passed list are values then show a table else show a text "No data".

The output file shows the table correctly and no issues here, my issue with the file is that i can still see the placeholders for the conditionals and loop

Also if i do any changes to the file and save them then i cannot open the file anymore.
Does anyone have any feedback that can be done to remove the field placeholders and also give the user the ability to edit the file without breaking it?

MS Graph Poller approach to accessing different inboxes

It seems like in order to use MS Graph Email Poller for different inboxes, I would want to set up different schemas in the MySQL Appian Cloud database (so the tables APP_MAIL_POLLER and APP_MAIL_POLLER_DOC that the plug in uses would have a unique table per inbox). Are there any drawbacks to this approach that someone might be aware of?

We have the SCS and everything set up correctly (except for a permissions error on the secret element which is out of date).

The documentation of that plug in mentions that the jndi should be set up as a datasource in admin console. Does that mean that it treats the connection as 'accessing it from external code'? Or, can we reference it in a different way?

Hello everyone,

I am developing a simple Appian expression function plugin using Java and Maven in Spring Tool Suite (STS) for Appian 24.1 On-Prem.

The plugin deploys successfully in Admin Console, but the Modules column is empty, so the function does not appear in the Expression Editor and cannot be used in an Expression Rule.

What I have done so far:

Created a simple Java class:

What could cause a plugin to deploy successfully but not register any modules?
Is there any additional configuration required for expression function plugins in Appian 24.1?
Could this be related to the plugin packaging or manifest configuration?

Transpose data in excel to vertical columns rather than horizontal columns

I am using Export DSE to Excel node so currently, the data in each tab of the Export uses the default horizontal (normal) formatting. The user would like to have the columns transposed to Vertical formatting when the Excel is created.

Excel tab show the data in vertical rather than horizontal. So, column A would have all of the column headers, Column B & Column C should hold the related data and so forth. Kindly give your suggestions
