I am facing an issue with isUserPasswordValid() of the Credential Management plugin. It’s not working for me and is always returning false, even for a valid username and password.

Is it working for anyone else? I am using an Appian Cloud environment.

Please share your inputs.

SFTP PLUGIN & SFTP Send File

After upgrading version of SFTP Plugin to 4.1.1 and using SFTP Send File new smart service file permission issue is occuring.
Note - Previous we were using Send File Over SFTP (Basic Credential).
Please provide the information why it is occuring this is on priority for me

The solution to fix this is to provide the file name in path. This is the filename the destination will use to save the file.

The parameter Remote File Path should look something like this "/aaa/ftp/APPIAN/Incoming/Test/thisistestfile.xlsx"

Requirement: Create an WEB API that allows users to reset their password using their temporary password.

We are using:
- Appian Cloud
- Appian native authentication (not external authentication such as SAML or LDAP)

We would like to create a Password Reset API for Appian users.

Please provide your valuable inputs.

Use this CSS in the HTML before PDF generation: white-space: pre-wrap; overflow-wrap: break-word; word-wrap: break-word;

If the text is inside a table, also set table-layout: fixed; width: 100%; and put the text in a <p> or <div>, not plain inline text.

I have a requirement where need to generate the PDF document. if i add text which is more that 4000k then text gets overflow the screen and it comes in single line. How to add a line break so that the text should be in paragraph itself.

Try adding word-wrap and white-space CSS to your paragraph
html<p style="word-wrap: break-word; overflow-wrap: break-word; white-space: pre-wrap; width: 100%;">
your long text here...
</p>

word-wrap: break-word — breaks long words/strings at the container boundary
overflow-wrap: break-word — modern equivalent, use both for compatibility
white-space: pre-wrap — preserves line breaks (\n) from your Appian text field and wraps normally

RE: Issues with ADT files

I think there might be a couple of things contributing to both the visible placeholders and the document corruption after saving.

One thing I noticed is that the `#if` block is being closed using:

```xml id="m7n2vs"
<w:tag w:val="@after-row[/#if]" />
```

Since `/#if` is more of a block-level directive, it may work better as:

```xml id="0g8cxv"
<w:tag w:val="@after-block[/#if]" />
```

My guess is that using `@after-row` here could be confusing the ADT engine a bit, so the SDT control is not getting cleaned up properly and ends up remaining visible in the generated document.

I also noticed that some `<w:sdt>` elements seem to be using the same `w:id` value, for example:

```xml id="e1wxj0"
<w:id w:val="604079035" />
```

From what I’ve seen, Word expects each content control to have a unique ID. Reusing the same `w:id` across multiple SDTs can sometimes cause document structure issues, especially after editing and saving the file in Word.

It might help to assign a unique integer ID to each `<w:sdt>` block and test again.

Issues with ADT files

Hi community,

I'm using Advanced Document Templating plugin for a document generation where i have multiple chapters, and in each chapter i have have a conditional statement that if in the passed list are values then show a table else show a text "No data".

This a similar structure to the one that i'm using

The output file shows the table correctly and no issues here, my issue with the file is that i can still see the placeholders for the conditionals and loop

Also if i do any changes to the file and save them then i cannot open the file anymore.
Does anyone have any feedback that can be done to remove the field placeholders and also give the user the ability to edit the file without breaking it?

Hi Flávio,

I would avoid editing document.xml directly if possible, because it can easily leave Word content controls or invalid table structure behind.

A safer approach would be to rebuild that section in the Word template itself: put the condition around the whole table vs. the “No data” paragraph, and keep the loop only on the repeating table row. If the conditional or loop placeholders are placed inside the wrong part of the table structure, ADT may still generate the data correctly but leave the controls visible in the output.

For the edit/save issue, I would also check whether any content controls remain in the generated DOCX. If they do, Word may modify them when the user edits the file, which could explain why the document becomes corrupted after saving.

it will not work in Appian Cloud. What you are seeing (always returning false) is expected behavior.
isUserPasswordValid(username, password)
only works when:Appian stores and manages passwords locally (self-managed/on-prem environments)
In Appian Cloud:
Authentication is handled via SSO / Identity Provider (IdP) (example: SAML,Okta)
Passwords are NOT stored in Appian.
Appian has no ability to validate a password.

I ran into something similar a while back in an Appian Cloud setup. In my case, isUserPasswordValid() kept returning false because of authentication configuration and environment-specific restrictions rather than the actual username/password combination.

A few things you may want to check:

Make sure the user is active and not locked.
Verify the authentication source being used in Appian Cloud.
Confirm the plugin version is compatible with your Appian version.
Try testing with a basic local user account first instead of SSO/LDAP users.
Review the application server logs if you have access through support.

AFAIK isUserPasswordValid() is a local/self-managed environment only function.
It does not work on Appian Cloud because Cloud uses SSO/federated authentication - passwords are not stored or validated locally by Appian.

I’m facing an issue while generating a PDF from a dynamically generated Word document.

Requirement:

Capture multi-line text from an Appian UI Paragraph Field
Populate it into a DOCX template using DOCX From Dynamic Template
Convert the generated DOCX to PDF using PDF From DOCX
Both smart services are from the Advanced Document Templating plugin

Issue:

The DOCX file is generated correctly and preserves all line breaks as expected.
However, when converting the DOCX to PDF, the line breaks are not rendered in the PDF output.

What I’ve tried so far:

Replacing char(10) with the XML equivalent 

Tested multiple variations, but the issue still persists
Implemented solutions suggested in the references below

However, I'm able to fix the issue using new smart service "DOCX From Dynamic HTML" available in latest version.

Steps followed:

Generate a word DOCX document using DOCX From Dynamic HTML instead of DOCX From Dynamic Template
Convert to PDF using PDF from DOCX smart service

We have faced the same issue recently after updating Advanced Document Templating from version 1.1.0 to 3.2.0. As per investigation the latest plugin version has some issues and is affecting the font styling as well as formatting of pdf while docx is as per expectation. Reverting it back to the 1.x.x version resolved it. Try doing the same and check.

I'm using Mail Poller plugin for reading the emails from mailbox, but I'm getting the following error message, it is not reading the emails. Any idea?

ErrorMessage - Error executing the request
TimeLimitReached - false

It's supposed to be a connection or authentication failure.
We need more error details, but still, here are a few basic things to check.
Still Check:
Correct IMAP/POP3 credentials, App password (if MFA is enabled), IMAP enabled in mailbox settings, Correct port & SSL config.
