This did end up being the issue. Some miscommunication with our middleware team complicated things. Working fine now. Thank you all.

michaelm410, can you double check for " email-address-config-custom_US.properties" under "<APPIAN_HOME>/ear/suite.ear/resources/text/jsp/WEB-INF/conf/process" and add the missing custom senders in the below format and make sure address name are mapped properly in the "email-address-config.xml"

address.lynxEmailSender.displayName={Lynx Email Sender}

Are you considering loggedin user Languages Preference and pass this value as an input to the translation file. If yes then if any text which is not declared in translation file, then Appian is unable to read that text and that's why it is coming like ???text???

Bump.. Any other suggestions? We are wondering if any of the process engines may need to be restarted/recreated. I've had other issues where certain functions were failing because the analytics and search engines need to be recreated. Wondering if we could be looking at something similar here.

Do you have your language resource files in the higher environment? They would be named "email-address-config-custom_xx_YY.properties" and should reside in "<APPIAN_HOME>/ear/suite.ear/resources/text/jsp/WEB-INF/conf/process/"

"xx_YY" would most likely be "en_US" in your case.

We have checked both of these files:
email-address-config.xml is the out of the box version and matches the lower envs
email-address-config-custom.xml is our only custom sender and again matches the lower envs

Anything else we can check?

It looks like you are missing a properties file. (ex. email-address-config-custom.xml and email-address-config-custom_xx_YY.properties)

Your lower environments probably have this resource file while your other environment does not.
