&lt;p&gt;1. Do you have business requirements on the future state model&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;2. Is the model mapped out a to level 2 in BPM terms&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;3. Then when designing a level 3 (executable), apply best practices like&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;A. Follow data driven design for short lived, where possible&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;B. Keep pm light (limit modes and PVs and chaining) &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;C. Apply security and data mgmt&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;These are just a few to start..&lt;/p&gt;
