readexcelsheet() returns a success boolean, and on failure an error message with the valid bounds for the sheet numbers. You might be able to use that.

Hi ,Requirement is to read multiple sheets from excel and based on certain calculations, need to generate output excel with multiple sheets.

What attempts have you made? The Excel tools plugin contains smart services and functions that have sheetNumber as an attribute.
