Parse the file, make changes and extract data can mean so many things. Did you consider to just use RPA to automate the existing approach? I am not sure that there is an easy way to do that otherwise, without custom plugins.

I have an legacy application that users upload docx files. We use a third party office suite to convert the file from docx to html manually. I'm trying to automate the conversion step in Appian using out of the box tools, I need the file in html so that my current parser can parse through the uploaded doc to make changes and extract data.

readtextfromfile() does not understand your DOCX document format.

Can you provide a full rundown on what you are trying to do and why? Then we might be able to support you with options.

I wanted to convert my file from docx to html so that I can easily parse it. The expression I was trying to use was readtextfromfile() to pass the docx text to use for the HTML DOC from Template smart service.

Can you give us a bit of a background? What is the purpose of this?

What do you mean with "use the smart service by reading the docx file using an expression"?
