Thank you everyone for the suggestions. For now we have decided to go ahead with adding the instruction for a particular field when it will be updated.

Alternatively, you can append unicode characters using char() function conditionally .

Highlighting label is not possible in 17.1 unless we use richtext(). We can add additional information to the label based on the condition.
In 18.x we can make use of box layout for entire section and sideBySideItem for single field

Thank for the suggestion Christine. This is possible for 18.2, we would definitely make use of this once we move to the latest version.

There is no highlighting feature in Appian as of now.You could only make the field bigger to get some attention. You could also add a new read only field near it with some instruction, without any title and add your condition at show only when. So when the condition is met some text will be displayed near the field automatically which I believe the closest substitute you can get in Appian.

As far as I know we use to give the attention to user regarding particular filed by giving Validations, Help tooltips and Instructions. But Highlighting the filed label is not possible in Appian. You can educate the User what we can do with Appian.
If you are on 18.2 you can try to follow the suggestion given by Christine.

Highlighting a label is not possible.... However, when you get to a more recent version of Appian, you could use the side by side layout to display images as the 'label' to achieve this. (Just one idea).
