If you are using latest version of Appian. Try using Document Viewer Component - a!documentViewerField()

Document viewing behavior differs depending on the document type and browser. Some browsers may render documents inline, while other browsers
or file types may be downloaded. Browser plug-ins or extensions may impact this behavior. Consider the browsers that your users will be using
to access your application.
Example: PDF documents are displayed inline in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge, but are downloaded by default in Internet Explorer 11.
a!documentViewerField() component displays documents stored in Appian.

This has been resolved by Appian in its latest release with a new component a!documentViewerField(). Please use this.

Hi ravis219 Please correct me if i am wrong, you want to read a document in Interface but you don't want to display this document on UI?

Is it like, you want read the file and display the information available in it on the UI instead of directly showing the document? And where is this document available, in KC or the DB, as you have mention Backend, does that mean Database (BLOB & CLOB) Content?

Please elaborate your use-case so that it will be easy for the practitioner to understand and can provide you the possible approaches.
