FWIW i believe this thread is a duplicate of this other one. I can only assume some users copy the same question to multiple applicable "categories", not realizing that they'll all show on the main Discussions page.

Another option might be to have two different versions of the dropdown's 'choiceLabels', one wiht just the plain text, and the other with the same text but with a Unicode icon, and select the choiceLabels depending on whether the selected value had changed or not:

One option is to use the 'instructions' attribute. You can have a rule that checks if the value has changed and then set the instructions accordingly:

Note: you can use fn!char() and then use a Unicode value to generate icons to make your text stand out
