It may not help here, but we had a similar issue with a user that had 'Manager' rights to processes reassigning and completing tasks assigned to other users. Reported as AN-401222 (2014) this behavior was missing from the documentation.

Assuming Brian and Steve's answers are not what's happening, is this "another user" a system administrator or a basic user?

Basic user might have used the Reassign task option available on left navigation ( Reassign Task)
The Process History audit trail can help you to trace who re-assigned the task to whom with Datetime ( Check for Actor Attributes )

Steven, you are correct. The audit says the name of the user and also he is the basic user in the system. To top it, we have not used any of the mentioned smart services. Just surprised that there are many tasks which have been reassigned. And all of them have the data Audited in Process History. Thanks.

From my experience, user initiated reassign is pretty clearly audited in the process history, especially convincing if the name in there is a basic user and the task allows reassignment.

Reassigns could potentially happen from plugins as well:

@brian, escalation is not set in the UI. I was looking for if any system driven cause which may have assigned the task to a person in the group. Basically facing an issue where a task is assigned to a person in a group where the actual implementation is to assign the same to location. Process History suggested another user did this. But before confirming, i am checking if it was manually done or any other system behavior influenced this.

You can use escalations to reassign the task to another user in the group: forum.appian.com/.../Escalating_a_Task.html
