Symptoms

Creating a CDT using the create from database table or view option takes a long time to generate the data store drop-down field.

The following error is also observed in the application server log at the same time:

[ajp-/0.0.0.0:8009-34] WARN org.hibernate.cfg.SettingsFactory - Could not obtain connection to query metadata 
INFO [stdout] (ajp-/0.0.0.0:8009-34) java.sql.SQLException: Cannot create PoolableConnectionFactory (Communications link failure)

Caused by: java.net.UnknownHostException: *Database Host Name*: Name or service not known

Cause

Appian is attempting to communicate to all available data sources to populate the drop-down, but is unable to connect to one or more data sources and eventually times out, causing the delay.

Action

Identify the data source causing the delay based on the application server log and confirm if there are connectivity issues between Appian and the data source.

Workaround

Remove the data source which is causing the delay until the underlying issue is resolved. The data source can be added later as described here.

Affected Versions

This article applies to all versions of Appian.
