KB-1777 Appian Installer on Linux fails to run with "Error in action InstallSelectedFiles: permission denied while executing"

Symptoms

The Appian installer on Linux fails to run with the following error:

Error in action ExecuteAction
Error in action InstallSelectedFiles
couldn't execute "/usr/tmp/ijtmp_XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXXX/installkit": permission denied while executing

The following are all true on the environment:

  • SELinux is enabled.
  • The user has execute permission for the /usr/tmp directory.

Cause

The Appian installer creates a temporary directory in the /usr/tmp directory and runs executables. SELinux is configured to block executables from running in the /usr/tmp directory.

Action

Work with a System Administrator to modify SELinux permissions to allow executables to be run in the /usr/tmp directory.

Affected Versions

This article applies to all versions of Appian using Linux as the operating system.
