While starting Appian, JBoss fails to start due to the following error in the server.log file located in <JBOSS_HOME>/standalone/logs:

ERROR [org.jboss.as.server] (Controller Boot Thread) JBAS015956: Caught exception during boot: org.jboss.as.controller.persistence.ConfigurationPersistenceException: JBAS014676: Failed to parse configuration...Caused by: javax.xml.stream.XMLStreamException: ParseError at [row,col]:[3,1] Message: Unexpected element '{urn:jboss:domain:1.8}server'
This error occurs when the JBoss version is not supported by Appian. The minimum version of JBoss that is supported is 6.4.14.
Download JBoss EAP 6.4 (6.4.14 or later) and start Appian again.
