Symptoms

Documents that should exist in a folder are no longer appearing in that folder, and users cannot see them in Appian Designer.

Cause

The documents expired due to the Knowledge Center expiration setting. Starting in Appian 18.1, documents never expire.

Action

Create a process model that uses the Edit KC Properties smart service to change the Expiration Days to 0.

Affected Versions

This article applies to Appian 17.4 and earlier.

Documents start expiring at an arbitrary date after they have been moved to a new knowledge center with no expiration dates implemented.

Cause

The documents were moved from a knowledge center that had expiration dates, to a knowledge center that did not have expiration dates.

Action

Create a process model that uses the Edit KC Properties smart service to change the Expiration Days to 0.

Symptoms

Documents start expiring at an arbitrary date after they have been moved to a new knowledge center with no expiration dates implemented.

Cause

The documents were moved from a knowledge center that had expiration dates to a knowledge center that did not have expiration dates.

Action

Use the Expiration Duration button and click OK on the dialog box (that says "0" days) to reset the expiration dates for all files. This will also re-enable any expired documents in that knowledge center.

Workaround

Set the expiration date in the old knowledge center to 0 before moving the documents to the new knowledge center to prevent documents from expiring.
