Symptoms

Uploading a Health Check data collection .zip file to forum.appian.com fails with the error:

The file <filename>.zip exceeds the maximum size limit of 1GB

Cause

The maximum file size for a Health Check data collection .zip to be uploaded to Forum is 1GB. In some instances, the Health Check data collection .zip file generated may be larger than 1GB due to log size and volume.

Action

21.2 and earlier

Starting in Appian 21.3, Health Check collects a more targeted set of logs for analysis which improves data collection performance and reduces the size of the generated .zip file. Upgrade to Appian 21.3 or later and re-run Health Check to generate a new data collection .zip file.

21.3 and later

A product use case has been logged to the Appian Product Team for consideration to ensure generated Health Check .zips do not exceed the Forum file upload limit. Kindly note it is not Appian Support’s policy to disclose how or when a product use case will be implemented. Please create a support case with Appian Support to be added to the existing use case.

Workaround

To work around the file upload limit, either of the below options can be implemented.

1. Use Automatic Upload

Automatic upload via the Appian Admin console has a maximum size limit of 2GB, rather than the manual upload limit of 1GB. If the generated .zip is larger than 1GB but smaller than 2GB this will allow for the larger health check .zip to be uploaded

2. Reduce the .zip size

If the generated .zip is still larger than 2GB when using automatic upload, the following steps can be taken to reduce the size of the Health Check data collection .zip file to under 1GB:

(21.1 and earlier only) Remove all tomcat-stdout.log* files in <APPIAN_HOME>/logs. NOTE: This will not impact analysis results.
Remove all perf_monitor_rdbms.csv* files in <APPIAN_HOME>/logs/perflogs. NOTE: This will not impact analysis results.
Remove any files older than 2 weeks. NOTE: Analysis results will not include some findings older than 2 weeks.
Remove any files older than 1 week. NOTE: Analysis results will not include some findings older than 1 weeks.

If the .zip file is still larger than 1GB after taking all steps above, open a support case with Appian Support to identify additional files that can be removed.

Cause

Appian Cloud sites, including Forum, have a maximum file upload limit of 1GB. In some instances, due to log size and volume, the Health Check data collection zip file generated is greater than 1GB. Starting in Appian 21.3, Appian collects fewer logs in the Health Check data collection zip file.

Action

Upgrade to Appian 21.3 or later and re-run Appian Health Check to generate a new data collection zip file.

Workaround

Take the following steps until the Health Check Data collection (in .zip format) is less than 1GB.

Remove all application server log files (ex. tomcat-stdout.log). NOTE: This will not impact provided analysis results.
Remove all perflogs/perf_monitor_rdbms.csv* files. NOTE: This will not impact provided analysis results.
Remove any files older than 2 weeks. NOTE: Analysis results will not include some findings older than 2 weeks.
Remove any files older than 1 week. NOTE: Analysis results will not include some findings older than 1 weeks.

If after step 4 the Health Check data collection is still larger than 1GB, open a support case with Appian Support to review what files can be removed.
