Symptoms

Integrations that use a DocuSign connected system with basic authentication are failing after October 5, 2022 despite no configuration changes made.

Cause

DocuSign recently announced that on October 5, 2022, it will be removing support for basic authentication as a means of calling its APIs in favor of JWT Grant authentication.

Action

JWT Grant authentication for DocuSign was introduced in the following Appian versions:

22.3 GA
22.2.230.0
22.1.550.0
21.4.880.0
21.3.1150.0
21.2.1350.0
21.1.1615.0

Ensure you are on a version where JWT Grant authentication is supported. Then, update any DocuSign connected system objects to use JWT Grant authentication instead of basic authentication. More details regarding this update can be found in our documentation here.

Any integrations using a DocuSign connected system with basic authentication will need to be updated to use JWT Grant authentication.

Action

Please update the DocuSign connected system object to use JWT Grant authentication instead of basic authentication. The JWT Grant authentication type was introduced in Appian 22.2 and hotfixed back to 20.3.

Purpose

DocuSign recently made an announcement stating that it will be removing support for basic authentication as a means of calling their APIs in favor of JWT Grant authentication. Any integration using a DocuSign connected system with basic authentication will need to be updated to use JWT Grant authentication prior to October 5, 2022, after which these integration calls will fail.

The JWT Grant authentication type was introduced in Appian 22.2 and hotfixed back to 20.3, which means this change can be avoided by not upgrading to 22.2.

Instructions

In most cases, this will only require changes to the DocuSign connected system object — not the integration object(s).

The exception is when a single DocuSign connected system has multiple integrations for the Create and Send Envelope operation. Even in those cases, it’s only a problem if those integrations have multiple different values for the From dropdown (which enables DocuSign’s SOBO function). Purpose

The JWT Grant authentication type was introduced in Appian 22.2 and hotfixed back to 20.3, which means this change can be avoided by not upgrading to 22.2.

Instructions

In most cases, this update will only require changing the authentication type to basic authentication within the DocuSign connected system object rather than the integration object(s).
