This issue has been resolved in an Appian hotfix/new Appian version. Please apply the latest hotfix to your Appian installation or upgrade to the latest version of Appian.

Symptoms

Upon upgrading from 21.4 to 22.1 and later, the following error may be seen in tomcat-stdout.log:

com.appian.data.migration.AdsSchemaException: Schema: DesignObject, Details: The stored version (2021_08_10_terminal) could not be found in the migration path

Cause

In Appian 22.1 and later, the DesignObject Schema was updated to use a different version than what was introduced on Appian 21.4. This causes the above error to appear on startup, however the error has no effect on customer environments.

Action

This issue has been hotfixed via AN-203503 in Appian 22.1.490.0 and later and 22.2.180.0 and later.

Affected Versions

This article applies to customers upgrading from Appian 21.4 to Appian 22.1 and later.

Symptoms

When customers upgrade from 21.4.310.0 to 22.1.205.0, the upgrade goes through fine and all components are started. However, the following error is being seen in tomcat-stdout.log regarding ads data migration.

com.appian.data.migration.AdsSchemaException: Schema: DesignObject, Details: The stored version (2021_08_10_terminal) could not be found in the migration path

Cause

The reason it is being shown in versions 22.1+ is because a migration in the Design Object Schema was changed from a previous version which had already run. The Terminal Migration in the current path runs into this error because the persisted version (of the "old" migration) had been changed.

Note that this error will be seen again on future app server restarts, but it will not be an issue for the environment.

Action

No action needed to be taken on the customer's side.

The product team have confirmed with the product team that customer's environment will not at all be affected by the shown Design Object Schema errors.

This is currently being addressed by Appian's ADS squad in a follow-up ticket and and they are working on a fix for the affected versions.
