If the account was created with the wrong name, the suggested approach is to create a new one with the desired name and deactivate the other one. This is feasible for accounts which are not yet associated with processes.
To rename a user, contact Appian Technical Support for the correct version of the script based on the version of Appian used. Note that Appian Technical Support must administer this process for Cloud customers. On-premise customers can rename users following the instructions provided by Appian Support in a support case.
Note: Renaming users using this method is resource intensive, because it acts as a simple search and replace in every engine in Appian. These steps must be executed during off-hours. If you use LDAP Synchronization, you must also disable LDAP Synchronization for the rename to be successful.
An enhancement has been logged to the Appian product team to allow for the functionality of renaming users in the product without the need for running a script or updating records in the usr table in the Appian data source. The reference number for this request is AN-53337.
