This issue has been resolved in an Appian hotfix/new Appian version. Please apply the latest hotfix to your Appian installation or upgrade to the latest version of Appian.

Symptoms

A process instance with a negative process ID (PID) is opened in Edit Process mode, then switched to Monitor Process mode. When a user selects Modify > Resume, the following error occurs indicating that the process is being edited by another user:

One or more of the requested processes could not be resumed because the process is being edited by another user.

This error will occur if the PID is negative and no other users are currently editing this process.

To confirm that the process ID is negative, perform the following:

In the All Processes report in /designer, add a column of New Data.

Set the label to "PID".

Set the definition to
=pp!id
.

Save the report. There should now be a column with the PID for each process instance.

Cause

This issue has been addressed via AN-70058 in the following hotfixes:

Appian 16.2 Hotfix Package C

Appian 16.1 Hotfix Package E

Appian 7.11 Hotfix Package H

Appian 7.10 Hotfix Package K

Appian 7.9 Hotfix Package L

Appian 7.8 Hotfix Package O

Action

Apply the latest hotfix to your Appian installation or upgrade to the latest version of Appian

Workaround

Processes with negative PIDs can still be resumed from the Processes list in the /designer interface. Simply check the box next to the process instance(s) that you would like to resume, then select the Resume option in the menu bar of the report.

Affected Versions
