KB-1215 "This plug-in [] is not registered to access secured values for the given external system key" error thrown when executing a plugin

Symptoms

When attempting to execute a plug-in that requires access to an external system in the Secure Credentials Store, the following error is thrown:

com.appiancorp.suiteapi.common.exceptions.AppianException: This plug-in [<PACKAGE_NAME>] is not registered to access secured values for the given external system key [[externalSystemKey=&lt;<KEY_NAME>, fieldKey=credentials, usePerUser=false]]. Check the external system’s plug-ins list in the Administration Console. (APNX-1-4229-003)

Cause

There following are possible causes for this issue:

The external system key is misspelled in the node inputs.
The name of the external system is used in the node input but it is different from the external system key.
The plug-in does not have access to the external system.

Action

Open up the Admin Console and navigate to Third-Party Credentials.
Open the external system used in the process model and make sure the Key value is the same value specified in the node input in the process model.
Under Plug-ins List, ensure the plug-in has been given access to use the external system.
