&lt;h2 id="symptoms"&gt;Symptoms&lt;/h2&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The Health Check process may appear to be &amp;#39;hanging&amp;#39; or taking a very long time without completing but does not appear to fail.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The following error can be seen in the application server log:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;pre&gt;&lt;code&gt;ERROR com.appian.integration.httpclient.smartnode.HttpFileUploadSmartNode - ConnectorRuntimeException [title=Error calling HTTP File Upload, com.appian.integration.core.exception.ConnectorRuntimeException: org.apache.http.conn.HttpHostConnectException: Connect to forum.appian.com:443 [forum.appian.com/XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX, forum.appian.com/XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX] failed: Connection refused] &lt;/code&gt;&lt;/pre&gt;
&lt;h2 id="cause"&gt;Cause&lt;/h2&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Appian Health Check requires a connection to Forum (&lt;a href="https://forum.appian.com/"&gt;https://forum.appian.com/&lt;/a&gt;) For some self-managed customers, there may be restrictions on network traffic preventing the connection to Forum.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h2 id="action"&gt;Action&lt;/h2&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Add a network rule to allow connections to forum.appian.com on ports 80 and 443.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h2 id="affected-versions"&gt;Affected Versions&lt;/h2&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This article applies to all versions of Appian using the Health Check plugin.&lt;/p&gt;
