&lt;h2 id="symptoms"&gt;Symptoms&lt;/h2&gt;
&lt;p&gt;When opening a new tab after logging into Appian as a SAML-enabled&amp;nbsp;user, the following&amp;nbsp;message appears:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;pre&gt;Authentication was unsuccessful.
Reason: Unexpected error occurred during SAML authentication test. &lt;br /&gt;Close this window and return to Appian Administration Console. &lt;/pre&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Additionally, the URL will read &lt;code&gt;&amp;lt;APPIAN_HOME&amp;gt;/suite/saml/AssertionConsumer&lt;/code&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h2&gt;Cause&lt;/h2&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This issue has been resolved via&amp;nbsp;&lt;strong&gt;AN-85424&lt;/strong&gt; in Appian 17.1 Hotfix Package E and Appian 17.2.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h2&gt;Action&lt;/h2&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Apply the latest hotfix to your Appian installation or upgrade to the latest version of Appian.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;As a workaround, change the URL to&amp;nbsp;the preferred destination after the error page has rendered, such as &lt;code&gt;&amp;lt;APPIAN_URL&amp;gt;/suite/tempo&lt;/code&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;
