KB-1491 500 errors in WebLogic access logs accompanied by end user blank screens

Symptoms

Users experience blank pages that never load in Tempo. If the page is refreshed or the tab/window is closed and reopened, the page is no longer blank.

When the issue occurs, errors similar to the following 500 errors are printed in the WebLogic server access logs:

Cause

The issue is with the Apache mod_wl plugin. Oracle has acknowledged that there are issues with version 12.2.1.1 of the plugin.

Action

Revert to a previous stable version of the mod_wl plugin (12.1.2). Alternatively, use a newer, patched version (12.2.1.2 and later).

Affected Versions

This article affects versions 17.2 and later.

Cause

Symptoms

Users experience loading blank pages that never load in Tempo unless the page is refreshed or tab/window is closed and reopened.

In the WebLogic server access logs around the times the issue occurs, 500 errors get thrown similar to these:

Cause

The issue is with the Apache mod_wl plugin. Oracle has acknowledged that their mod_weblogic plugin version 12.2.1.1.0 is broken. They have released multiple versions since then (their first patch attempt was also broken, but they have corrected it subsequently).

Action

Revert to a previous stable version of the mod_wl plugin (12.1.2), or newer patched version beyond 12.2.1.1.0.
